Room 28/29 Class Korowai

My Reflection:

In Term 1 of 2015, our class make a Korowai (cloak). First we got a strip of paper, then we got some markers and writ our names and some school values on them. When we were finished we put them in a pile, the next day we got a paper leaf, colored it, and put our name on it. When we finished our leafs, the strips of paper were weaved together and looked really cool, and our leafs went on the top. I enjoyed this activity, and it was fun to write and draw on the strips of paper and the leafs. The next step could be making a cloak someone can actually wear! That would be cool.

Term 4 Week 6

On Wednesday I was sick. I have no idea what happened to me, but when I woke up I was very pail and had a bit of a temperature, so I was just reading a book in bed.

When I had finished my story I watched movies on the couch. I had a realllllly big headache and I got my blanket that has a hoodie over me while I was lying down, but it was in a type of angel which made me get a reallllly sore neck, so I had to sit up.

After I watched my first movie, I watched another, and I had my hoodie on, but it made my head hurt even more, it was because my head was getting really hot, so I got some juice to have while I watched the movies. I kept going back for more, but then I got a sore stomach and I kept going to the bathroom.

I watched 4 movies and went onto the computer to do some school work and play Minecraft, also with my pet "Pou" (computer game thing).

So that was what I did when I was sick. I missed out on swimming and bike skills, but I would have rather stayed home in that condition.

My Reflection:

I have been learning to find adjectives, adverbs and similes in stories. I read  Thumbelina. Then I made a list of all the similes, adjectives and adverbs. This was a reading activity. It took a while to read the whole story and stop to write down the words onto my list, but it was the story wasn’t that bad, I guess. My next step is to add adjectives to my own stories.

Te Tuhi Trip-Making a Callage

My Reflection:

I have been learning about collages. I went on a trip with Room 29 to Te Tuhi to learn about them and make one. The picture above is my collage, but I didn't have enough time to finish it. For my collage, I used paint, colored paper and pictures from old calendars, just like everyone else. 

We started with a piece of paper, then we got some smaller and colored pieces to stick on our page, but we could only use about 3 or 4 pieces. 

After that we got given pictures from calendars and a ink pad kind of thing. Then we all got a pencil and but the calendar piece on top of the ink pad, then traced the pencil around what we wanted on our collage.

When we had done tracing, there was ink on our paper from the tracing.

After that we cut out the picture we traced before and stuck it on our paper, we were expose to put it over where we traced but I accidentally moved mine half way through tracing it, so you would be able to see ink on around my picture and it would look strange, so I put my lizard on top of the ink in a type of angle so you could see the ink but I also put it in a way so you couldn't see that the ink was a little out of shape. 

My next step is to use different materials to make my collage.

Term 4 Week 5

This week I'm going to talk about a really boring subject:

Reading :l

On Monday I went to the library, I issued 2 books, both by Andy Griffiths. I got "Just Shocking" and "Just Doomed". I really like those books, the "Just" series. There's Just Crazy, Stupid, Tricking, Shocking, Doomed, Annoying, Disgusting and more! There are also lots of other books by him and they are all really cool and funny! In fact, I red a book to my step-cousin and she was cracking up laughing through it!

My personal favourite is in Just Stupid or Just Crazy, I think it's Just Stupid, yea, it is, I'm 99.9% sure it is, anyway, it's called "Expel Me!" and "Dum-dum" they are soooooooo funny :D

They are all filled with funny stories, right now I'm reading Just Shocking and Just Doomed, I read 1 story from 1 book, then change around. (I'm so smart!)

By the way, I've read all the books in the "Just" series if I didn't say that already.

My Fractured Fairytale

Term 4 Week 4

On the weekend, it was very boring. So maybe this recount should be boring.

On Saturday, I went to my friend's Halloween Party. We arrived late so it was a little boring because most of the kids left. But there were a few people I knew there. I was really bored, I was just eating stuff from the table, but then I started playing on my friend's scooter.

I was going around the little circle at the bottom of their street with my scooter while some other kids were playing tag. I was really close to crashing, like, saved by 5 centimeters. I was being really careful about where I was riding.

After a while my friend's little brother starting casing me around on this really small bike. He fell of every 5 seconds because it was so small. Eventually he started chasing me down the street but he stopped almost instantly, I was too fast.

While I was just scooting around on the scooter, a boy came up to me and asked if we could have a race going in a circle, but I said that wasn't fair because the person in the middle would be going on a shorter track. So we just decided to go straight, I told him he would properly win because I was in these sandals and they were a bit too big for me, so he said I could have a head start, but I said I didn't need it.

So we started racing, he was on his feet, but I was on the scooter, and I won. I didn't brag or anything, I wasn't planning on winning, but he was pretty fast. So that was the end of that.

After a while all the kids went inside and watched TV except me, I played on the scooter a little more, it was pretty dark. There were these caramel popcorn things inside a muffin rapper thing, and they were SOOOOOOOOO nice! I had about 8 of them, but my stomach was hurting so much! So I just went inside and watched TV.

After a while, we went home, and when we went home, I went to bed.

Bias and Different Point Of Views

     Women Takes A Stand!                      No Oxygen Left On The Planet!

After years of people realising that chopping down trees was a bad thing, a woman made an astonishing statement; “What about the need to build houses in the future? We need to chop down more trees to do that!” The government agreed, and as more trees were chopped down every second, more houses were built, everything so far was going in the right direction.

After the government decided to get rid of more trees, we also lost more food, more oxygen, more plants. Scientist calculate that if this goes on for much longer, everyone will be forced to a new planet, taking more plants and trees, before their the planet gets polluted! But lots of new houses are made for the future, thanks to our ‘Chopping Down Trees’ service.

My Reflection:

I have been about Bias and looking at different point of views. I didn't find this activity very easy at first, I had to go through a presentation about it. I had to write a type of article about something then something else, the same topic, but a little more negative or positive. My next step is to write something about a bad thing then it turned out to be good!

Term 4 Week 3

This week there's so much drama on getting our weekly tasks done, you know why? Because all the computers are flat! For some reason they aren't charging and that's a real pain. I was just able to find one with 31% left and I'm using it to write this now. We are checking the cables and everything but nothing is working! Hopefully we can fix it soon.

Changing Subject:

I forgot my togs today, so I properly have a punishment like others did on the 2nd day of school in term 4. Everyone was expose to bring their togs to put us into groups. I ended up in the shark group. (Confident Swimmers!) Today was the first day I forgot my togs this term and it's because I woke up late because I stayed up late last night reading.

I'm not looking forward to picking up rubbish around the school because I forgot my togs, but hopefully they won't lay down that punishment today.

Last week and this week we have been doing a thing called "Jigsaw Art" with our student teacher, Mr. Wright. At first I really didn't want to do it, like REALLY didn't want to, but now, it's turning out to be a little more fun.

So this week has been pretty good so far, but I always look forward to the weekends. With a day without school on Monday because it was Labour day for my country. But I'm still really tired from the long weekend. So I'm not looking forward to anymore Athletics like last week on Friday. (Athletics Day was torture!)

My Character Description-My Awesome Great, Grandad!

My Character Description-Jefferson the 3rd

Jefferson the 3rd is a chubby, old lady who talks sassy as a butcher. She also chews with her mouth open and is a little cra-cra. She's only a butcher because no-one else would hire her! She is a little wonky and weird, some people say she's as ugly as a barfing dog. Lots of people think she is Samoan but nobody knows for sure....

I have been learning about how to write

a character description. We all got given a piece of paper with a character on it, I got this one. We had to get a buddy and write some stuff about it like it's job and adjectives and similes about it. I did most of the work, all my buddy did was come up with the job and that it "Talks Sassy". Then we wrote a little paragraph  called a "Character Description" just like some examples we were shown. After we had finished I put mine on my blog. My next
step is to make a whole story about one character
and it's life.

Term 4 Week 2

On Saturday of Week 1, Term 4, my step-cousin is at my house from last night because she was having a sleepover :D When we woke up I had a shower, it was really cold that night, so it was nice to be under some warm water.

After my shower I got changed and had breakfast, I always have toast and a milo for breakfast... My Favourite!

After all that me and my step-cousin, Brooke, collected grapefruit of my tree, then we wrote on some cardboard:
Grapefruit for sale! 5 for $1!

Then I got my Mum to get the fold-out table while Brooke asked the lady at the dairy if we could sell grapefruit outside her shop, she said yes.

Then Brooke's brother, Cory came. So he sold grapefruit with us. We all walked to the dairy with the supplies and made a little stand for selling grapefruit, but our stand fell over because it was too windy and it wasn't placed properly, so we put it back up in place and made sure we didn't lean against it.

From time to time someone came past and we asked them if they wanted to buy some grapefruit, finally someone came wanted to buy some, we got $1 from her.

We waited for quite a while but no-one wanted any, then someone came out of their car and we just didn't bother to ask, he went straight into the dairy, when he came out he was holding 20c and a bottle of milk. He went to his car, but just after he opened it, he closed it and came towards us, he literately threw the 20c he had on our table, we weren't sure if he said anything, because he barley looked at us, but we were grateful.

After that I thought that with the $1 we made we could get some gum-balls from the dairy but Brooke doesn't like them, she said she wanted a gob stopper, so I just went in with the 50c and got Brooke a lollipop and Cory chewing gum, but he said he didn't want it so I swopped it with gob stopper, Brooke would have done the same but she already but the lollipop in her mouth.

After a while my Mum came by with the van and said she was going to my Untie's and when she comes back she'll pick up all the stuff, and that felt very quick! She came and we all got in and put everything in the back.

When we got home we just left the stuff in the back for another day, sometime soon. I did enjoy most of selling grapefruit but Brooke didn't really, she said it was cold and boring, but it was just like selling Girl Guide Biscuits!

Fact or Opinion Follow-Up

My Reflection:

I have been learning about fact and opinion. This activity was easy because we have done fact and opinion earlier in the year and I know the difference. In this activity I had to tell the difference between the facts and opinions. This activity didn't take me that long because I already knew most of the answers just like that. My next step is to write something and maybe highlight the facts and opinions.

Finding Facts Challenge

My Reflection:

I have been learning about finding information for "KiwiKidsNews". I found it very hard to find out information because nothing really told you when it happened so I couldn't use it. I found it easy to do the "My Summary" because I could easily make connections and thoughts in my head. I enjoyed this activity, even though it took me almost 1 day. My next step is to find information about different things on different websites.

Term 4 Week 1

My Holidays

In the short holidays after Term 3, I had found out that my step cousins were living at my Grandma's house while she was living with me. They were there because they sold their house and was about to move into a van. So, they invited me and my brother to come on the first Friday of the holidays. I said yes.

Later that evening, I had to pack for 3 nights, and so did my brother, then my Dad drove us there, I took my favourite pillow for the drive. My grandma's house is on a farm and it was out of Auckland, so it was pretty far away, it took about 2 hours to get there.

Once we arrived we took our stuff inside. My cousins were so happy to see me, they were right at the door waiting! When I first saw them, I thought a saw a vampire! But it was just paint on my cousin.

I have 3 step cousins, Bracken, Breeze and Reef. They were named that because their Mum is all about nature and art. Bracken, as in the bracken they used as beds in the older days, Breeze as in the wind breeze, and Reef as in the reef in the oceans. Bracken is the oldest, he's 11, Breeze is 8 and Reef is 5.

When we got inside the actual house, we were told there was a possum inside! When I saw it, it was walking around the Lounge. It was a little blinded on one eye. Reef said when he opened the door he just randomly walked inside! So he said it was his, and everyone agreed on it, it was more of his then anyone else. Reef decided to call it..... I forgot what it was a first, but at the time, his name was Nigel.

Breeze showed me the room we were going to sleep in, there was a bunk bed taken apart, so a normal bed, and then a high up bed, but in different places, then there was a mattress on the other side of the room, Breeze said I could choose between the two low beds, I just chose the mattress.

After I got all my stuff in place, I went to the lounge, there was a movie playing. I didn't know what it was called or anything, but it was a sky type of movie.

After the movie, Nigel went into our room, he started to crawl on my bed, after that I hated him.

The next morning, we decided to go down to the creek! Just across the road in a paddock, when we got there, we just jumped across, then we got a little board and went home.

Later that day, we came back, I didn't have any togs with me so I just used some cloths because we were going to get into the water. I got in a few times, but it was FREEZING cold! I got goose bumps and everything! Breeze went into the water a couple of times too. 

When we got back home I think we watched a movie or something, but I can't really remember what happened after that, it was 2 weeks ago.

The next morning after we had breakfast, we went to the stream, I went into the water, but not for very long, we were there for ages, about until lunch, when we did get back, we had lunch, we had yummy sandwiches..... hmmmmmmm....

Anyway, after lunch we went back to the stream, we did mostly the same as last time, going into the water and stuff.

When we got back we played with the sheep and cows that were in a paddock right next to us, then we asked to go on a hike, I had the idea of going to where the pinecones were, so Breeze, Reef, my brother and I went. Breeze was packing the cookies we baked earlier on, and I got toilet paper, just incase we got really far and someone had to go.

After about 45 mins of straight walking, we finally got there, but there were no pinecones anywhere! I was a little annoyed that we walked all this way for nothing, when we walked back we saw the lake we pasted before, there was mud all around it and I feel over into the mud while trying to get my foot unstuck. 

After I got to the other side (I was last there) we decided to eat. I was carrying the bag, so when I got into it, there was no food anywhere! We were all so hungry though.... We blamed this on Breeze, but got over it pretty quickly, after another about 30 mins of walking (it took less time because we were going mostly down hill) we made it back, we told my Auntie what happened, she just laughed.

After everything that happened that day, we had dinner, then my Dad came, he had some more stuff for me because I was staying 2 more nights! :D My brother also had to go home though, which I didn't at all care about. x^x

After that, we watched a movie, I think.... Then we went to bed, I was trying to get to sleep so I could make the nights go faster, and it worked, eventually.

The next morning I think you can guess what we did.... Went to the stream. When my dad got me some more stuff, he got togs as well, so I put them on, after we got back from the stream, some friends of Breeze, Bracken and Reef arrived, I forgot their names, but there were two boys, straight away, we went to the stream.

Bracken came this time, and he actually got in the water, along with the older brother of their friends, I got in as well, we decided to travel one way down the stream, at one part there was a big log or something a I fell over, luckily I didn't get my shoulders under water, because if I did, I would have been screaming!

When we got a little further, the path got skinny and we decided not to go that way, so we went back the other way, there were HEAPS of red dragonflies, all around us, and they kind of annoyed me, we didn't get that far before it got REALLY, REALLY, REALLY deep! So we just went back, after that we went back home and Bracken and his friend  played this game, I forgot what it was called, while the rest of us was just drawing.

There were alot of other cool stuff we did that holiday, but I think I've written HEAPS! Enough for all of you guys, let's just say we went back to the stream quite a lot and my sister and my cousins came, when I got home I went to bed, the next morning I played minecraft!

After this awesome time, I was looking forward, I did some counting and apparently, I breathed 6800120009 times! Wow! And that was only in the day time! (I think). I really enjoyed these holidays and I hope I'll be able to go back again!

Term 3 Week 10

This week is the last week of term 3! It's been such a short term! It's gone so fast! Well this week, there is no new SDL stuff. We are just finishing old tasks, but I ALWAYS finish all of my tasks really early, so there were other stuff to do, on Monday our whole class came to the mat after morning tea and watched a youtube clip of "Sadako and 1000 Paper Cranes".  After we decided us 50 children would try to make 1000 Paper Cranes by the end of the week! Even though it's Wednesday and we still have 970 to go. So that's another thing to do, then there's writing a letter to someone in Melbourne, Australia. Our teacher is going to be sending a bunch of letters from our class to a class in Melbourne. The year 4s' have been reading a book called 'Pen Pals' and now we are all expose to read it then write a letter to a Pen Pal. I think that you think that I think this is a horrible idea because of how I'm saying this but I'm actually pretty excited to have a 'Pen Pal'. I have made 1 paper crane (I suck at making them) and finished my Pen Pal letter, well other then making it pretty. We also need to check our E-portfolios (Blogs) for x3 Writing tasks, x3 Reading tasks, x3 Maths tasks and x3 Showcase. (Showcase is things that aren't reading, writing or maths.) After all that we can do some normal tasks, for example: This piece of writing right here! This is a blog recount and it's a weekly task. This week we can also do Handwriting, SSR (Silent, Sustained Reading) and reading. I'm just doing paper cranes now :)

Kensuke's Kingdom-Parent Interview

My Reflection:

I have been learning about the book Kensuke's Kingdom. In the book a child named Michael goes overboard a boat. We have an activity to do about this, we had to make up 5-8 questions to ask his parents, then we made our answers up. I did it with a partner, this is on her blog as well. :)

Term 3 Week 9

This week us year 5s (Room 29) and all the year 4s go to the auditorium in the morning to do some fitness. Today was our first session, but they told us to call it the "Practice" session. I wasn't all too happy about the idea, lots of us weren't but some were, and they were mostly year 4s.

When we got there we made rows that were curved so we were all looking at the person up front. We started doing some star jumps, then we did some high knees, after that we kicked our knees up behind us, after that we did this move where our arms and legs move back and fords.

After all those moves we did some stretches that we normally do at Jump Jam, well not all of them at Jump Jam, we sat on the ground and put out our legs, then we tried to reach our toes, I couldn't but I was quite close.

After the streches we did a Jump Jam song! I was quite excited, I like Jump Jam. I forgot what song it was but I remember that I wished it was something different.

After the Jump Jam song we were intructed to line up infront of our teacher, so we did. After we were lined up the other classes left, then our class left too.

From that experience I'm not too excited about the next session.

My Reflection:

I have been learning about improper fractions and mixed fractions. This activity was one of our tasks for this week. I have taken a screenshot of a question that I got right. It was easy to get the answer right because I've learnt about improper fractions and mixed fractions before. My next step is to have harder questions and questions that relate to something I haven't learnt about too much before.

Term 3 Week 7

(Groan!) This week, is just sooooooo annoying! Constant rain, freezing weather and it's just been horrible! The only thing I like about the weather is that there's no cross country! :D But still, the FREEZING cold weather even made me sick! I had to stay home for a day or two! I'm glad Spring is finally back to our side of the Earth! The sad thing is that in Spring there is quite a bit of rain but at least it's warmer! So I am really looking forward to next week or month or so when Spring starts to settle because it only just came.

Term 3 Week 6

This week we carried on our SDL. (Student Directed Learning) But this time, the Year 4s had to write their speeches so us Year 5s had to write a poem called a "Haiku Poem" and it was really fun, I liked it because of course, it was part of writing. For our poem we had to choose a season an I chose Spring, the poem has 3 lines, the lines described the season, the 1st line had to be only 5 syllables, the next line had to be 7, and then the last line was 5 again, I really enjoyed this activity and it is on my blog, it should be the post below this one, anyway, I hope I can do it again and I think it was a really good writing activity.

T3 W4 100 Word Challenge

My Reflection:

I have just made a weekly 100 Word Challenge. The topic was about a strange animal. The example was the time traveling elephant, I really like elephants so I tried using that twice but it always ended up about 300 words long, I really like the 100 Word Challenge because it's writing.  :)
This time, we had to watch a video on a sight called Vimeo.

My Explanation Writing

My Reflection:

I have been learning about explanation writing. I have made a piece of writing about how to make a piece of writing about how to make a windchime. This was really enjoyable, to make the windchimes and to write this all down. My next step is to describe any special features in my explanation

Term 3 Week 3

This week was quite different, normally the teachers would be running the recounts but this time, I got to run one! I got to run a recount workshop because of my writing skills! Not many people came like usual but I'm pretty sure they learnt something! I might do some more in the next few weeks but I'm not sure.

I think this is a good experience to have while you are small so you know better in the future! I really enjoyed doing this because I love to help others, and it just so happened to be that I made this blog post while I was running the workshop! I had no help from anyone else to run this and for a first time, I think I did a really good job!

I hope I can do this again sometime soon and maybe I can become a pro or something! I hope I can do it again and I really think I could become really good at this soon.

Explanation Writing

My Reflection:

 I have been learning about explanation writing. I watched a video from NZGetThru-What to do if there is an earthquake. After we had listened to it we had to fill in the brainstorm at the top then write our Explanation writing, I really enjoyed this activity, I wonder if we'll be doing more on Explanation Writing next week, til then I'll need to finish all my other weekly tasks.

Kensuke's Kingdom, Chapter 2: Water, Water Everywhere

I have been learning about the book Kensuke's Kingdom, this week I have read Chapter 2. Along with reading it there are activities to do. Above are my activities that we had to fill out. I think this activity was really fun but I loved the activity about the turtle facts the most! That was REALLY fun!!! :)

I really enjoyed this, next week I think we are doing Chapter 3 since last week we did Chapter 1. I'm really looking forward to it and it will go right here on my blog as soon as I have finished it!

My Fractions Work

My Reflection:

I was learning about mixed and improper fractions. I played a Pacman game where I had to eat the ghost with the improper fraction equal to the mixed fraction below. I found this game really fun but it wasn't easy, I don't know much about mixed and improper fractions, well I do but I can't work it out so easily. Again, I find this game fun and good learning so I will leave the link to it below.  :)

Kensuke's Kingdom Chapter 1: Peggy Sue

My Reflection:

I was learning to use information from the text to compare points of views.  I had to read the first capture of Kensuke's Kingdom. After I had finished that I had to answer some questions and put in answers. I thought it was fun because reading is fun but it took a really long time to read it. I chose to share my learning with this sheet. I thought it was easy and fun because of how much information was in the text. My next step is to think about whose point of view is closest to mine.

Explanation Writing

My Reflection:

I was learning about Explanation Writing. In this image I was putting parts of a piece of writing together. I found this game really weird, I didn't totally enjoy it, it was a little fun. This about how honey was made. I had to do this for a school activity about ''Explanation Writing'' and it just so happened to be a extremely weird game. 

Term 3 Week 2

A new thing has been introduced to the classroom. This was a while ago but we did our school work interdependently. Because of this, the teachers decided to make levels or stages for us. But we call them levels. There are 4 levels. Level 1 are called recruits, Level 2 is called Rookies, Level 3 is Scholars and Level 4 are Masters. Level 1 is where you get the teacher to plan your day and give you lots of support. Level 2 is when you get a Master to be your buddy and help you with planning your day and doing your weekly tasks. Level 3 is where you can do all of this by yourself and you are really independent. Level 4 is where you are level 3 but you also help the Level 2 people with their weekly tasks and learning. I am level 4 and I help 3 other people with their learning. I really enjoy this and every once and a while all the Masters meet up in the morning to have a meeting.

My Tree Planting Recount

My Tree Planting Recount

Today at school, around 11:00am we went to the back of the Elm Park field. Walking there was horrible, the path was all muddy and the complete opposite of silence around me....horrible! Anyway, the trip wasn't that long, actually, it wasn't long at all but it did fell like it.

When we arrived we got instructed to gather around someone named Anna who was from the council, she introduced herself, also two other people named Carl and Paul, also from the council. All three of them were wearing green uniforms that I thought were cool! Anyway, she told us what we were going to do today then passed it on to Paul.

Paul once again got introduced, but this time from himself. He was telling us about the different type of trees we would be planting, there was 5; Toitoi, Flax, Cabbage tree and two more, you can't blame me for forgetting, I wasn't paying much attention because I was just taking photos.

After all the blabber we were told to get into buddies, then, when everyone got their buddies, they got a shovel, found a plant and started to dig. Then they got a Fertiliser Pellet which helps the plant grow. They put the pellet in the hole then the plant and put the soil they digged up all around it.

I was quite sad to miss out because off my allergy to plants, so I helped by finding the good spots for people to dig by. Anna and the others were supervising us by helping and giving us tips.

After we were told that it was time to stop everyone finished what they were doing, put their shovels away and got into a line to wash their hands. I was still standing on the hill where everyone was planting the plants. I was going to take a photo off the kids washing their hands but the memory card of my camera was full! So I had to delete some useless photos to take one off someone washing their hands.

When the time came, we started to line up ready to leave. When we were going back to class it didn't feel like the trip to plant, it felt like the trip back was shorter but it did seem like there was more puddles! When we were in the school grounds we saw Mrs.G who just so happened to be looking for us. 

Overall, I though it was quite nice to take some nice photos of people and get some fresh air. My favourite part was when I said to someone ''Smile for the camera!!!'' and they made a really funny face, it took ages for me to stop laughing. I'm looking forward to taking some more photos and taking care off the environment again.

My Reflection:

I was learning to make a poster based on a quote. I found this really fun and easy, it was easy because we just needed to find a background image and 5 quotes, out of the 5 quotes we had to choose one that really stood out. I found this fun because I like to design things and be creative. I hope we can do this activity again.

T2W10

Today, along with three other children from three different classes went to Te Tuhi! This morning I was told that I had t go to Te Tuhi to takes photos and answer some questions. The principle and the year 5 and 6 deputy principle went with us in the school van. When we got there we were looking at the plants that we made last time we were at Te Tuhi, I found it very fascinating. Then a lady with a camera greeted us and got us to stand in front of the plants and took photos. We were told that we looked very smart. It felt like 100 photos were taken but it was only about 10. We didn't need to answer any questions because no one asked anything. When we got back I went to my class and on the way I got a drink from the drinking fountain and arrived saying Mrs. Melville I'm back!

My Reflection:

I have been learning to make a colour poem. First I had to have a colour brainstorm and then choose one colour, I only had a feeling about yellow. Then I did a simile and metaphor brainstorm, after that I chose one metaphor and three similes. Then I put them together to make a colour poem like so. I liked this activity because it's really fun and easy.

My Maori God-Mahana-Ahi

My Reflection:

I have been learning to draw a Maori God, we had a choice to make up a god or use a real one, I made up my own. My one is called Mahana-Ahi, because it means bright fire in Maori and my god is the god of fire and sun. Sorry I couldn't get the whole of my God in but you do get a good look, the words on the sides are adjectives, my ones are  Brave, Strong, Warm, Bright and Smart.

Term 2 Week 9

This week the year 5s who didn't present there speech to the class last week did it on Monday this week. I was the first on Monday to say mine. When I got up from the mat I looked at everyone, I could feel something pushing on my chest and knew all I had to do was let the words out. It was a little noisy so the teacher made it quite. I looked at the teacher and she nodded so the words came out, I started with a very clear and loud voice and it kept going through the whole speech. After the first dozen seconds I couldn't feel anything pushing on my chest and felt much more confident. This was a nice feeling to have and I kept talking. When I was done I sat down on the floor by everyone else. We have this thing on the laptops when we report everything at that goes to the teachers to choose the finalists. Everyone told me to look away from there laptops, I did but it was hard not to. The teacher said my speech had an interesting topic that no one has done before.

10 Facts About The Brain

I have been learning about the brain, this week there were a bunch of tasks you can do related to the brain. You could choose 2 tasks to do and I chose the "10 Facts About The Brain" task. I really enjoyed making this video, I did some researching to get the facts. I hope these facts are useful and some of them are actually really important and helpful! Skip Counting

My Reflection:

I am learning to skip count. I have been playing this game to use my skip counting skills. This was easy because I have learnt and talked about it before but I got some wrong because the are just thin lines and it's hard to click on one and not the other.

Term 2 Week 6

This week was a different sort of week for us in a very awesome way because we went to Te Tuhi! On Monday the year 5s of room 28/29 went to Te Tuhi to learn about vertical gardens. Luckily, instead of walking like we normally do, we got a ride in the Elm Park van, it took 3 trips to get even there. But we managed. When we got there we had a talk about some art on the walls an sculpture in the middle of the entrance room. Then we went to the art room and cut a bottle into a certain shape so we can put some pumice and then soil and a plant. But before that we decorated it with little stickers of yellow and red. I took a while for me to do mine because I found it really hard to peel it. Then when we put the pumice, soil and the plant into the plastic bottle we took of back by the sculpture. Then we went to a room where artist made art by taking photos of there work or of the city. There was one with incoming words that sometimes meant something and sometime, well, I didn't have a clue why they put them there. Next we went back to the sculpture and the van arrived, I was in the first load and as soon as we got back we started eating. I really enjoyed this trip and I'm so excited for the next trip to Te Tuhi next term.

Term 2 Week 5

I am a tooter, a tooter for writing. Every day I help a year 4 to write a story. I have stickers to give if he does good work and a special little pen with 4 colors, black, red, blue and green. Sometimes I miss out on the things I love doing and sometimes I miss out on the things I don't like doing but mostly it's the things I like doing. My job as a tooter is to help people to achieve writing at the best standard they can reach and to make sure they get all their ideas out of their head on the page. I don't love doing it but I don't hate it either, lets just say it's alright.

Comparing Characters

My Reflection:

I have been learning to compare my own characters with other characters. The image has two circles, one is for my character and facts about him and the other is for another character and in-between is what they both have is what they both have in-common. This didn't take a while to do but it took a really long time to figure out how to put it on my blog so I hope you enjoy.   :)

Adding and Subtracting Strategies

 My Reflection:

I was learning how to use adding and subtracting strategies. This was easy to explain since I have been learning about these strategies. I prefer the the place value strategy because I think it's easier. I hope this slide helps lots of people and I think it is a good thing to look at when learning maths strategies.

My Speech on Popplet

My Reflection:

I have been learning to use popplet to write my speech. This didn't take that long, not long at all, but it did take a lot of effort. I'm really proud of my speech. Last year I came 1st for year 4 speeches, now I'm hoping to come 1st for year 5 speeches. I love my speech and hope I make it to the finals.

Term 2 Week 3

On Monday this week the Mayor of Auckland came to visit our school to award us our Green Gold Award. We had one of our teachers great them as they walked in. Another teacher said a pepeha in Maori, then the Mayor did as well. Then the choir and I sang a greeting song. Finally we got our award and the Powhiri ended.

Term 2 Week 2

Every week there is a hundred word challenge, sometimes we need to write about an image, and sometimes we can write a story that has persific words in it, but we are only aloud 100 words. This week's hundred word challenge was based on a image of the army on a ship going to war. We all had to write about someone's perspective, I wrote about a man's perspective one the ship going to war. My 100 words should be on my blog soon.

I have been learning to do a Venn Diagram from Charlotte's Web called Making Connections. This shows what describes Wilbur and describes Charlotte. This was easy because we have been reading Charlotte's Web and know a lot about these characters.

My Reflection:

I was learning to read numbers up to 1000 and say witch is bigger or smaller. Using my basic facts helped me. Knowing that the left numbers are the biggest also help me. Being able to use my place value to add and subtract numbers helped me work out the problems. Braking up the numbers and putting on more glue helped me to solve the problems.
